Restaurant City – Maximum Level Strategies
May 19, 2009This is a continuation from this article

I’ve gotten a number of questions regarding what the maximum of this or that is. As well as just what is the best strategy to use once you have the maximum number of employees. So to begin with the following are the relevant current maximums in Restaurant City.
| # of Employees | 8 (reached at restaurant level 17) |
| Popularity | 50 |
| Restaurant Level | 27 |
| Dish Level | 10 each |
| Restaurant Space | 17 squares by 17 squares (289 total squares of interior space) |
| Cooks | 4/5* |
| Waiters | 3 |
| Tables | 12/15* |
| Toilets | 6/40* |
| Waiting Chairs | 4/5* |
*depending on if you use an employee as a cleaner or not.
Now, I’ve seen a lot of ideas of what is “the best” once you get your 8th employee and I must confess that I disagree with most of what I’ve read. Many of the strategies try to implement a 5 cook, 2 server, 1 cleaner arrangement. However, as discussed previously this is a non-ideal setup. This is because 2 servers can only handle 6 tables each (12 total) in an efficient manner. More then this will slow down how quickly your meals get served, thus causing your overall efficiency to decrease.
I gave this some thought and even tried a few unusual table set ups and had some limited success. The thought then occurred to me that with enough toilets in place I would not need a full time cleaner. So, I took some measurements and found that each cook causes 10 people to need to use a toilet for every 5% of the cook’s energy. Since a toilet can be used 5 times before it has to be cleaned and cooks we apply the following equation
# toilets = (# of cooks)x(number of uses required)x(# of time increments)/(times toilet can be used)
# toilets = 5×10x4/5 =40
So this tells us we need approximately 40 toilets. While this may seem excessive keep in mind that by the time you hit level 17 (when you get your 8th employee) you will have sufficient room to place this many toilets. However, you will not be able to do so and keep your restaurant aesthetically pleasing at level 17. So, I would recommend doing 20 to 30 which will allow you to go until 85-90% at which point they will need to be cleaned. Thankfully, their specific location/arrangement does not matter. Customers just need access to all of them.
Now that we no longer need a cleaner we can have a 5 cook, 3 waiter combination. This is an efficient combination allowing all 5 cooks to prepare meals continuously. Below I have put together some efficient arrangements. These are not the only ways to setup your tables, they are simply examples that follow the guidelines given in the previous articles. Keep in mind that just because you have 5 cooks, you do not have to use the 5 cook arrangement. You could do a couple 2 cook arrangements with a 1 cook arrangement or a 2 cook and a 3 cook, etc. If for some reason waiters are not appearing where they should be, rest your waiters and swap around your ovens, keep doing this until the waiters are properly assigned. The reason this works is because waiters always appear next to ovens when initially placed.

In the last arrangement it is important that the 2 waiters are in the left hand area. If waiters are not appearing where they should swap the oven on the far right for the one of the 3 on the far left and re-assign your waiters (setting them to rest and then back to the waiter position), this should correct the problem. Once again, while the above arrangements are efficient they are not the only efficient way to arrange things. So long as your waiters can reach at least 6 tables each without having to walk more then 2 steps then your arrangement is fine.
In any case, after your employees reach 80% you will want to then shut down the restaurant (this is done by blocking or removing the front door) and then putting everyone on cleaning duty for a little bit. Once the toilets are clean (which shouldn’t take long with 8 cleaners) you will set them to rest and then start all over again once they’re back at 100%.
You guys worry too much, just make an efficient layout, minimizing the sum of all distances from the door to each chair, and aim to minimize dead time (walking to chair, waiting for order, etc).
It is a simple linear programming problem, I have been maintaining a 50pop average for a couple of levels now, and I don’t even bother to add toilets and my staff can be at 80% and still be at 50 popularity.

Hi
In all these discussions, there’s no mention of drinks being served? And in the layouts, the drinks dispensers were not included. If no drinks are served will it affect the popularity & GPs?
those articles were written before drinks were introduced to the game. I can tell you from expereince the ratio you’re aiming for is 1 waiter for every drink machine and 1 drink machine for every 2 cooks. The net result is, you’ll want to replace one of your cook/stove combos with a drink/waiter combo, so the old table layouts should work fine if you do that
i am maintaining a 49.0-50.0 rating with 4 cooks, 3 waiters, a cleaner.. then i have 14 seats and 14 tables, 2 waiting seats, 5 toilets, 2 arcades.. and that’s it! my restaurant rocks big time! ^_^
5cooks, 3waiters, 12 toilets, 19tabels, 6wait seets and always 50pop!!

I used 5 chefs and 3 waiters with no cleaner nor toilets whatsoever, with 26 seats I can earn gourmet points rapidly.
You can probably skip the cleaning altogether. I’m told that removing all toilets and putting them back (while removing or blocking the door) automatically cleans them. That, however, works only when you don’t have many.
I’ve used that exact layout and it’s worked fine for me. The most any waiter has to walk is two squares. Keep in mind that servers can serve tables if they can reach them diagonally. So all of the tables can be reached with that setup.
I’ll admit that one is a little unusual. I’ll see if I can dig up a screen shot of it.
ok, as promised. here are some screen shots of it.

not efficent with the 3 cooks 2 waiters because your way was with a oven and next to it was a table :O doesnt make sense.
I get 48 to 50 all the time. My setup is 5 cooks, 3 servers, 19 tables, 6 toilets. Dont bother to clean the toilets.
Check out my setup in my blog, http://funvinyldecals.wordpress.com
hmm… well, I’ll look into your setup though I’m surprised you’re able to maintain such a high popularity rating. I know that on mine it drops to around 45 or so once all the toilets are dirty. It might be because you have too many chairs. My goal was to prevent the situation of people leaving the table angry but I can see how the extra seats might be working as pseudo waiting chairs. Particularly, if the vacated seats are not being immediately re-filled.
the sistem that u had for 5cooks and 3waiters,wansnt actually good, the most i got in points was 27,and with my sistem, almost 50, u need the waiters to have free walk to anyplace, even the other side, cuz the cooker wont say”i will only cook for this side” cuz doesnt work that way
how many toilets did you have? you are correct that your popularity will not be at 50 unless you have enough toilets to handle the situation. which setup specifically were you using?
What I have listed are merely suggestions which I’ve gotten to work without issues. Because of space reasons though in my own restaurant I use a setup with 3 islands. as can be seen here. The only time my popularity drops below 50 is once all of my toilets become dirty.
Do you have a screen shot of your setup? I will be more then happy to look over what you have and add it, if it’s a viable method of doing things
this is pure awesome
this is so hilarious and you are a genius
